In my work, I strive to achieve a delicate balance between figuration and abstraction, to evoke ideas and suggest emotions by reinterpreting rather than merely depicting nature. It is the rhythms and the fundamental forms found in landscapes, plants, and trees that inspire me, and these become the real subject of my work.
Joanna Austin is a painter living and working in Abruzzo, Italy. She studied Fine Art at Hertfordshire University, winning the first prize. Her work is a personal synthesis of painting and drawing, utilising oil, acrylics and drawing media to achieve a combination of gesture and texture. Through observing nature and the landscape she aims to evoke a feeling or state of mind rather than depict a particular subject or place. She has exhibited in Europe and her work is in the collection of the University of Hertfordshire. She is a member of the Bellante art society.
